Finding peace in obedience
By GO Fellow Sarah Herrera
In a recent visit to Cassamajor, Pastor Renaud shared his wisdom on orphan care and why it is important for believers to obey God’s call to serve.
“It is a blessing from God,” he said. “When you are helping people with no champion, then God is thinking about you as well.”
He admitted that, with a village of 172 kids, there are often frustrations. When times are hard or children are difficult, he stops. He prays, and he remembers that God has placed him where he is for a reason.
He confesses that being a pastor is hard, but he finds peace in knowing that he is obedient. He finds joy in knowing that God is always caring for him and his village. Some days he wants to give up, just like any of us, but then God is good and gracious. Pastor draws encouragement from his role as a father figure in the village when he reflects on times that the kids have respected his authority.
Teasing Jonas, a GO Transition Academy (formerly known as Pathways) teacher and GO Haiti translator, Pastor shared, “If they do something bad, just tell them you are going to call me.”
GO Haiti Engagement Manager Stephanie laughed, adding, “That’s like how I was with my dad! It means you have a very important role.”
Agreeing that they are indeed a family, Pastor smiled, “It is the same way here.”
